Abstract


CONTENT ANALYSIS OF GRADUATE THESES ON SCHOOL PRACTICE COURSES BETWEEN 2015 AND 2024

The purpose of this research is to evaluate graduate theses on school practice courses (teaching practice and school experience) conducted in Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) according to various criteria. These theses were accessed via the “National Thesis Center” on the website of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). In this study, 67 theses published between 2015 and 2024 were examined using content analysis. The data were analyzed through frequency and percentage techniques in Excel and presented using graphs. The findings indicate that approximately one-third of the theses were at the doctoral level; a higher number of theses were published in 2022, 2023, and 2024 compared to previous years; and, in terms of universities, Hacettepe, Giresun, Gazi, Anadolu, and Middle East Technical University (METU) had the highest numbers of theses. Consequently, more thesis data were collected in Ankara Province and the Central Anatolia Region. It was also found that a larger proportion of theses focused on the fields of primary school teaching and English language teaching. Furthermore, the problems encountered in the implementation of school practice courses were generally centered on prospective teachers and were found to arise from insufficient university–school collaboration.
