Abstract


ANALYSING MERT ARIK’S CHILDREN’S BOOKS IN TERMS 21ST CENTURY SKILLS

There are skills that come to the fore in line with the needs of each century. In this respect, acquiring 21st century skills or creating awareness about these skills should be started at an early age. In this respect, the purpose of the research was to examine Mert Arık's story books, which are among the most read works by primary school students, in terms of 21st century skills. The research was designed using document analysis techniques. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze statements related to 21st-century skills found in storybooks. When the books were analysed, it was determined that learning and innovation skills were reflected through activities such as evaluating different ideas, interpreting imagination and reality, dreaming, opening a museum by working with a team. It was determined that media and technology skills were mentioned through the heroes' researching information from books and encyclopaedias, creating media products and coding. It was observed that life and career skills were expressed through activities such as the heroes adapting to the world of fiction, making positive criticism, opening a museum, working with people from different cultures, designing puzzle games, and managing projects.
