ANTİK ÇAĞ KERAMİK TERİMLERİNİN TÜRKÇE BİLİMSEL YAYINLARDA KULLANIMI

Özet

The earliest known scientific studies in the field of classical archaeology were conducted by Western scientists in the second half of the 18th century. Turkish terminology for ancient ceramics largely emerged through the adoption of terms established in Western literature. However, some terms are used incorrectly. One reason for this is that terms that were used in Western literature incorrectly were transferred to Turkish in the same way. The word ‘firnis’ can be given as an example of this. Another reason is that some technical terms have been incorrectly adapted into Turkish. For instance, the word ‘kâse’ which is used instead of ‘cup’ in English. Finally, the use of different Turkish terms corresponding to an established Western term, such as ataş, ataç, tutaç, etc., can cause conceptual confusion. Within the scope of this study, Turkish scientific publications related to ancient ceramics will be examined and incorrectly used terms evaluated.
