BİR MEŞK SİSTEMİ OLARAK HUTÛT-İ OSMANİYE MATBU ESERLERİ VE HAT SANATINDAKİ YERİ

Özet

The art of calligraphy was transmitted from generation to generation through the mashq system. In late Ottoman period, the expansion of educational institutions created a need for teaching materials suitable for classroom-based instruction. In this context, printed mashq manuals played an important role in transforming traditional mashq practice into a written instructional system. This study examines Hutût-i Osmaniye mashq manuals prepared by M. İzzet Bey and Hafız Tahsin Efendi. Using document analysis, copies identified in various libraries and collections were compared, and no differences in content were found. The mashq instructions were analyzed in terms of script types, proportions, joining principles, and instructional logic. The findings show that Hutût-i Osmaniye systematically presents aesthetic and technical features of thuluth, naskh, ruq’ah, diwani, ta’liq, jali diwani, and ijazah scripts. The manuals reveal how knowledge traditionally transmitted through practice was transformed into a written instructional framework, establishing printed mashq manuals as a structured teaching system in Ottoman calligraphy education.
