This article discusses the names of the days of the week used in Kyrgyz language. Week-day names borrowed from Persian and Arabic are used more formally. In colloquial speech week-day names made from the combination of ordinal adjectives and the word kün "day" are very common. In this paper it has been shown that there is a discrepancy between the ordinal adjectives in the week-day names borrowed from Persian and the ordinal adjectives in the native Kyrgyz week-day names used in spoken Kyrgyz language. And the reasons of this case have been tried to be explained. Attention was also paid to the names of weekend holidays, which have an important place in determining the beginning of the week. The seven-day cycle is officially used all over the world these days. The reasons why the seven-day week is more common among other weeks (five-day,eight-day or ten-day weeks) are also mentioned. In order to research all these issues from different perspectives, the concept of week, the names of the weekdays, and the weekend holidays in different cultures are also emphasized.
