Abstract


ANALYSIS OF THE STUDIES ON THE TRANSFERS IN TEACHING TURKISH AND ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGEABSTRACT

This study was conducted with document analysis, a qualitative research method, to examine the studies on transfers in teaching Turkish and English as a foreign language, abbreviated as TTAFL and TEAFL respectively. The features of the studies on transfer in TTAFL, the features of the studies on transfer in TEAFL, the similarities and differences in the handling transfers in the studies on transfers in TTAFL and TEAFL were examined in accordance with the aim of the study. According to the data, it is determined that the studies on transfers in TTAFL were conducted in writing and speaking for all language levels, the effects of Arabic besides the effects of other languages were discussed in the classification of transfers in these studies. The studies conducted in learning writing and speaking in the TEAFL were examined; no language level was specified, and the effect of Arabic and the grammatical features of English were determinative in the classification of transfers in the studies. While the effect of Arabic is handled in terms of word types, grammar, and spelling in transfer studies in TTAFL and TTEFL, effects of other languages in TTEAFL were excluded and articulation problems in the speaking study were handled.
