Abstract


THE PREDICTIVE EFFECT OF HOPE AND PERSONALITY FEATURES ON PERSEVERANCE IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
In this study, it was aimed to examine the predictive effects of hope and personality traits on students' perseverance levels in university students. In the study, it was also discussed whether there was a significant difference between the determination, hope and personality traits of the students according to whether the parents were married or not and the perceived income level. The study population of the research is the students of Balıkesir Necatibey Education Faculty in the 2020-2021 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 249 students, 193 female (77.5%) and 56 male (22.5%) selected by convenient sampling method from this universe. It was observed that the ages of the students in the sample group were between 18-32. (𝑋̅=19.86 Sd=2.27). Personal information form, Brief Perseverance Scale, Persistent Hope Scale, and Five Factor Personality Scale were used as data collection methods in the study. According to the findings obtained from the study, it was seen that students' hope and personality traits predicted students' perseverance levels significantly, and that hope and personality traits together explained 43% of the change in perseverance scores. It was found that there was no significant difference between the perseverance and hope scores of the parents according to the state of being together. It was determined that there was a significant difference between the scores of the individuals whose parents were together and the scores of the individuals whose parents were separated, in favor of the individuals whose parents were separated, in terms of the mean scores of openness to development from personality traits according to the coexistence of the parents. Finally, it was observed that there was no significant difference between perseverance, hope and personality traits in terms of students' perceived income level.
