Abstract

DIGITAL STORY TOOLS USAGE COMPETENCE SCALE (DSTUCS): A SCALE DEVELOPMENT STUDY
This study aimed to develop a likert type scale to determine digital story tools usage competence. With the scale to be developed in this study, teachers' and teacher candidates' competences to prepare and use a digital story with Web 2.0 tools will be determined. Within the scope of the researcher's experiences in using digital story tools in classes and literature review, 49-item draft form was prepared. After obtaining expert opinion, it was applied to 505 individuals in the 2020-2021 academic year. Participants who had graduated from and were still studying at different universities were selected by the convenience sampling method. In the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) phase of the study, the scale form obtained as a result of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was administered to 335 teachers and teacher candidates who had graduated from and were still studying at different universities and departments. Scale data were analyzed with SPSS and LISREL software packages. During the analysis process, EFA, CFA, item analysis, item-total correlation and Cronbach's Alpha tests were performed. After the validity and reliability analyses, the 49-item scale was reduced to 19 items. The scale had a two-factor structure: the “technological competence factor” consisting of 14 items and the “pedagogical competence factor” consisting of 5 items. It can be recommended for future studies to use this scale to determine the effectiveness of technological pedagogical and field training programs developed for teachers and teacher candidates.
