Abstract
AN EXPLANATION OF POET: DERVIS IDENTITY IN YUNUS'S WORLD
Yunus Emre is the founder and a powerful representative of Anatolian Turkish Sufi literature. His enthusiastic poems have influenced the majority of Sufis living in Anatolia since the 13th century. The poems of this great poet who put forward religious-mystical issues in his unique style were written in a plain language and were read as hymns in Tekke and inspired travelers of Sufism. When Yunus Emre's poems are examined, it is seen that he frequently mentions some mystical concepts. One of them is the word "dervish", which is used to mean a traveler of Sufism. Even though it means the same as talip, salik and mürit, he prefers the word dervish. The reason for this is that he identifies the word dervish with the concepts of divine love. Expressing the qualities of dervishes in his poem, Yunus Emre draws a detailed dervish portrait for his readers and reveals the characteristics of these people in the context of the principles of the Sufism. In this study, a poem by Yunus Emre, expressing the qualities of dervishes, was evaluated in the context of the basic characteristics of travelers of Sufism and the poet's point of view. Examples from other poems were also given to understand some concepts better.
