Abstract


THE COMPARISON OF TEXTBOOKS ON TURKISH TEACHING AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN TERMS OF SPEAKING SKILL
In foreign language teaching, linguistic competence is provided as long as each skill is integrated with each other. Textbooks are the main tools as applied to ensure this competence. A systematic analysis of how each skill is applied in textbooks is important in terms of discovering the positive and incomplete aspects of textbooks. In this study, it was aimed to compare the textbooks for Turkish language teaching as a foreign language (Gazi University Turkish for Foreigners, Yedi İklim Turkish Language and İstanbul University Turkish Textbook for Foreigners) in terms of speaking skill activities. For this purpose, the activity in each textbook was evaluated from the point of the distribution within the unit, the type of questions, accuracy or fluency, interaction, the relationship with authenticity, group activity, the moment of realization (pre-exercise, while-exercise and post-exercise), the integration with other skills and other speaking activities, and the visual and textual support. In this study, document analysis method was used. At the end of the research, it was concluded that at all textbooks activites must be taken into consideration student-centered activities (accuracy-fluency integration, authentic communication, student-student interaction, group activity), speaking preparation process and, language skill balance.
