Abstract
INVESTIGATION OF PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT, ASSERTIVENESS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP NEED AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
This study examined the level of perceived social support and assertiveness in university students in determining the need of psychological help.
The sample of the study consisted of 846 undergraduate students at Erzincan University. The data collection instruments used in this study were the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, the Voltan Acar Self- Assertiveness Scale, the Psychological Help Needs Scale, and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. The findings obtained from the study are listed below.
According to the findings, the psychological help needs of the university students differ significantly according to gender, class level, place of residence, longest living place, parental survival status variables; it was found that there was no difference according to the number of siblings and co-existence status of parents. In addition, it has been found that perceived social support and trust is related to the psychological help needs of the university students in a meaningful and negative way, and it has been determined that the perceived social support and assertiveness are significant predictors of the need for psychological help.
