YUNUS EMRE TÜRKÇE ÖĞRETİMİ SETİ’NDE YER ALAN METİNLERİN TÜR, TEMA VE ÖZGÜNLÜK AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Özet

The use of textbooks as the primary source of foreign language teaching makes the selection of texts included in books important. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages also draws attention to the importance of texts in foreign language teaching and emphasizes that students should meet with a large number of texts. Because texts help develop not only reading skills but also speaking and writing skills. They also contribute to the vocabulary development of language learners and the recognition of the culture of the learned language as well as the acquisition of knowledge about the country/countries where the target language is spoken. Thus, for an efficient and effective foreign language course, the texts to be selected in textbooks need to comply with students’ level as well as with course goals and objectives. Literary genres, text authenticity and text theme are certainly the important criteria to be considered in the selection of texts included in textbooks. The present study thus examined the genre, theme and originality of texts included in Yunus Emre Turkish Teaching Books which are often preferred by centers teaching Turkish as a foreign language, both in Turkey and abroad. To this end, the study used a document analysis method in a manner to contribute to the qualitative research. Data collected was analyzed using content analysis. As a result, the study tried to answer the following questions: What literary genres and themes do the texts in the said course book focus on? What literary genre do these texts concentrate on depending on the level? To what extend are original texts included in the book depending on the level? Do these texts comply with the textual parameters as described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages?
