HÂFIZ ŞÂRİHLERİNE GÖRE ŞİRAZLI TÜRK

Özet

Among the poems composed by Hāfez-e Shīrāzī (died c. 1390) who was popular among Ottoman Turkish readers, one couplet seems to attract particular attention even today. It can be stated that the aforementioned introduction couplet draws more attention than any poem by Hāfez as it was responded to and kept relevant by a number of poets. The couplet is among the first lines of the Dīvān-e Hāfez, and it includes the metaphor, Turk-e Shīrāzī (:the Turk of Shiraz), and the tales formed around it. Due to its fame, it is commented in detail in annotation books. Therefore, there are various comments on the metaphor, Turk-e Shīrāzī, located in the first line as the Turk is the main character. The commentaries start with inherit figuration of the classical Persian poetry and include some historical and social information. Additionally, there are remarkable comments on mysticism. This study deals with Turk-e Shīrāzī metaphor in the aforementioned couplet and the commentaries on it by Turkish and Iranian poets.
