NÜFUS DEFTERLERİNE GÖRE 19. YÜZYILIN İLK YARISINDA ERDEMLİ VE ÇEVRESİ YÖRÜKLERİNİN İDARÎ VE DEMOGRAFİK DURUMU

Özet

Population, sex, age, occupation, belief, language and so many features of people are defined by censuses. The statistical data derived from censuses have vital importance in the process of making-policy. On the other hand, historical data are important sources for researchers those who are interested in social, economic and cultural features of the society.For this reason, the census data about the Ottoman period is one of the primary sources for historians studying in this field. The first modern census in the Ottoman State was conducted in 1831 during the reign of Mahmud II. In order to determine male population which were suitable for military service in the country, more comprehensive and detailed censuses were done in following years. In this paper, settlements, Yoruk tribes, administrative statues and demographic structures of the district of Erdemli in 19th century are identified. It is approached that Alata river, accepted as a border of two cities, has different social and economic features in this study. Especially, names of the settlement, Yoruk tribes, their population and distributions are pointed out.
