DEDE KORKUT KİTABI’NDA GEÇEN AĞAYIL VE KAYTABAN KELİMELERİNİN ETİMOLOJİSİ ÜZERİNE
Özet
Despite the numerous and productive researches made in connection with the text of the Book of Dada Gorgud, some problems in this regard are still finding a solution. There was not carried out until now any satisfactory clarification as per the meaning capacity and etymology playing an important role in the epic vocabulary. In this regard, the words ağayıl and kaytaban, which are met in no other source and taken place only in the Book of Dada Gorgud are especially noteworthy. To our mind, the words ağayıl and kaytaban contained in the epic text are unities used in terms of figurative expression to mean the sheep and camel kinds. The word ağayıl used in terms of “encompassing” (synechdoche) consists of a combination of unities “ağ” and “ayil”. The unities “ağ” and “ayil” mean correspondingly “white color” and “saddle belt or strap”. The word expresses completely “white line”. As to the word “kaytaban” it is formed based on encompassing (synechdoche). The word is a unity of the metaphor meaning consisting of “kay” (wind) and “taban” (foot). As the words of this type of a synechdoche nature are specific for verbal language are not reflected in the dictionary of the other written monuments and other medieval literary examples.
